Village of Downers Grove

Village of Downers Grove operates under a council-manager form of government. The Council consists of a Mayor and six Commissioners who are elected to four-year terms. The Council serves as the policy-making body for the Village. The Village Manager is appointed by the Council to be responsible for the overall administration of all Village.

DuPage County

DuPage County is one of the most dynamic growth centers in northeastern Illinois.Located just 20 miles west of Chicago, DuPage County is one of nine counties which make up the Primary Metropolitan Statistical Area (PMSA). The county offers the benefits of urbanized living, high quality educational systems, extensive recreational resources and a safe, attractive environment to live, work and raise a family.

On June 15, 1946 the Downers Grove Park District began a tradition of service as a dynamic community resource. On that date, residents voted in a local referendum to create a separate governing agency for the specific function of providing recreational opportunities for the community.

 

The DuPage County Election Commission

The DuPage County Election Commission is unique within the State of Illinois, since it is the only countywide election commission. Legislation passed in 1973 provided for the formation of this independent bi-partisan agency in January 1974. The Election Commission is charged with the conduct of all federal, state, county and local elections in DuPage.

 

Downers Grove Township

Downers Grove Township is the largest township in DuPage County, containing 54 square miles, 140000 residents and 9 incorporated towns. The township is bound on the north by 39th street, on the south by the Sag Canal, on the east by County Line Road and on the west by Woodward Avenue in Downers Grove.

Service Organizations

The Downers Grove Junior Woman’s Club

The Downers Grove Junior Woman’s Club is a non-partisan, non-denominational, volunteer women’s organization. Its members are dedicated to supporting and raising the awareness of charitable organizations, individuals in need, and the community.

 

The Downers Grove Rotary

The Downers Grove Rotary formally received its Club Charter in 1961 and quickly found itself comfortable with a broad range of activities and service projects, plus a strong emphasis on youth including the annual Halloween window painting project and other support for young people's activities with emphasis on music, sports, and leadership training.

 

District 58 Education Foundation

Through generous parent and community donations the District 58 Education Foundation raises money to support important educational activities not currently provided through the public school systems.  Although the foundation cannot supply funds for educational necessities such as salaries, its goal is to assist the district in funding programs that take students' educational experiences above and beyond what is seen in the typical classroom.

 

Kiwanis International

Founded in 1915, Kiwanis International is a thriving organization of service- and community-minded individuals who support children and young adults around the world. More than 600,000 Kiwanis-family members in 94 countries make their mark by responding to the needs of their communities and pooling their resources to address worldwide issues. Through these efforts, Kiwanis International truly is "Serving the Children of the World."

 

Lions Club

The Downers "Noon" Lions Club, founded in 1926, is the oldest service club in town. It is a member of the International Association of Lions Clubs. The Lions motto is "We Serve". Lions provide extensive support for visually impaired and hearing impaired people. Our service to the community includes working with area schools to meet the need of students with visual or hearing impairment. We provide funds for needed eye exams, eyeglasses, eye surgery, hearing test and hearing aids for the needy.

Downers Grove Area Chamber of Commerce

The Downers Grove Area Chamber of Commerce and Industry is a membership organization committed to coordinating and directing the collective efforts and concerns of our business, educational and governmental partners to enhance and strengthen the economic environment for our members and our community.

 

Downtown Downers Grove Management Association

The Downtown Downers Grove Management Association helps support and promote local business and helps coordinate special events such as the Ice Sculpture Festival and the Fine Arts Festival in the beautiful downtown - creating a business and shopping experience that boasts of hometown hospitality while at the same time offering the most contemporary services, merchandise and amenities.

 

Downers Grove Tourism and Events Committee

The Downers Grove Tourism and Events Committee works in conjunction with the Village and others to plan, promote and coordinate the best of our community including Heritage Fest, the Ice Sculpture Festival, the Criterion International Bike Race and the Fine Arts Festival. International City/County Management Association

The International City/County Management Association is the professional and educational organization for chief appointed managers, administrators, and assistants in cities, towns, counties, and regional entities throughout the world. Since 1914, ICMA has provided technical and management assistance, training, and information resources to its members and the local government community.

 

The Heritage Alliance

The Heritage Alliance is a not-for-profit environmental group with a primary focus on the protection and preservation of open spaces in DuPage County IL . We work to help local residents appreciate and enjoy our rich heritage

 

Chicago Land Citizens Yahoo Group

This is a loosely organized inter-suburban organization of citizen groups, focusing on development and historic preservation issues. It is coordinated by the Chicago office of the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
